Job Summary
This Laboratory Manager will be responsible for:
  • Managing operations and staff of assigned Laboratory Function.
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating strategic interdisciplinary programs which are consistent with the mission, values and goals of the Hospital.
  • Developing and implementing equitable criteria and processes which meet system standards, for selection, evaluation, promotion and terminations of all staff within designated area(s) of responsibility.
  • Interviewing, selecting, promoting, disciplines and discharges employees in accordance with personnel policy and practice. Reviewing performance appraisals and proposed merit increases ensuring consistency amongst subordinate employees and with other staff in the Laboratory.
  • Developing strategies, which emphasize the cultural change necessary to fully realize our vision of participation in the continuum of care.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, laws and requirements of requisite agencies by employing appropriate systems/processes.
  • Determining, developing, evaluating and is accountable for budgets, administrative strategies and information systems in support of clinical programs(s).
  • Leading individuals and work groups to continuously improve performance by creating an environment that ensures application of quality principles and techniques to achieve desired outcomes and fosters excellence, sensitivity and leadership.
  • Providing leadership for the development of and/or participation in studies, research, publications and public presentations.
  • Maintaining professional liaisons with area schools and universities.


To qualify, you must have:

  • The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a clinical laboratory science or related field and six to seven years of supervisory experience.
  • The analytical skills necessary to plan for, design or enhance highly‑complex hospital‑wide systems and programs, resolve problems requiring a comprehensive and state‑of‑the‑art awareness of scientific field, or develop financial and operating plans for a large department/division.
  • The ability to effectively manage the employees within assigned unit/department and to persuade and negotiate with peer level managers on issues and programs that impact assigned unit/department.
  • Work requires effectively dealing with conflicting views or issues and mediating fair workable solutions.
NOTE: For Blood Bank Employees – Successful completion of the hospital’s Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment. Unescorted access to the Blood Bank Irradiators is a requirement of the position.


Additional Information:

  • This position will oversee the daily operations of our Phlebotomy Team and newly implemented Service Center.
  • Seeking someone with excellent Customer Service
  • This person will need to have the knowledge/skill set to implement a service/call center are
  • The current Lab is moving to a new space and will be implementing a highly automated testing system


Certification, Registration, or Licensure Required:

  • Current registration/certification as a Medical Technologist-MT(ASCP) or technologist registered or certified in specific categories as follows: H,C,M,I,BB(ASCP) CLS,BB,H,C,M(NCA) RM(AAM) (HEW)
